Terraria 1.4.5.8 Crossplay Status
Short answer
Native PC, mobile, and console crossplay is not a server-side checkbox today. Terraria's official communication describes crossplay as future work. A normal dedicated server still needs a compatible client and server version on the supported platform path.
Crossplay Phase One is 1.4.6
As of the 19 August 2026 release announcement for 1.4.5.7, Re-Logic have named what comes next: "barring any critical fixes that would necessitate a 1.4.5.8, next up should be the long-awaited Crossplay Phase One update (1.4.6)". That is the first time crossplay has been attached to a version number rather than described only as future work.
Two caveats worth keeping in mind before you plan around it:
- No date has been given. Re-Logic say they will have more on what it entails "in the near future". In the August 30, 2026 State of the Game they added that once 1.4.5.7 is out for console and mobile and has had a few days to prove stable, they will be "pushing directly into Terraria 1.4.6, which will be Phase One of Crossplay". Console and mobile received the patch on September 3 and 8, so that condition is now met. Phase One also implies later phases, so the first release is unlikely to cover every platform pairing.
- It changes nothing today. Until 1.4.6 ships, everything on this page still applies - crossplay is not a server-side setting, and your group still needs a matching platform and patch combination.
Where 1.4.5.8 is out
1.4.5.7 shipped for PC on August 19, 2026 as the last planned hotfix for the Bigger and Boulder update, and 1.4.5.8, a small fix release, followed on August 23. Console and mobile went through certification and received both as a single update. The dedicated server download is versioned 1.4.5.8.
| Platform | 1.4.5.8 release | Note |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam and GOG) | August 23, 2026 | 1.4.5.7 arrived four days earlier, on August 19 |
| Xbox and PlayStation | September 3, 2026 | 1.4.5.7 and 1.4.5.8 shipped as one update |
| Mobile (iOS and Android) | September 3, 2026 | 1.4.5.7 and 1.4.5.8 shipped as one update |
| Nintendo Switch | September 8, 2026 | 1.4.5.7 and 1.4.5.8 shipped as one update |
Every platform is on the same patch line as of September 17, 2026. That does not create crossplay, but it does remove the version mismatch that split groups during the two weeks between the PC and console releases. Check the official Terraria Wiki version history and the official Terraria forums before planning a community event, because platform releases can move on different schedules.
What works now
- Run a vanilla dedicated server with clients on the same supported platform and patch line.
- Run a tModLoader server when every player uses the matching tModLoader branch, game version, and mod list.
- Run TShock for permissions, protection, and administration where the TShock build supports your Terraria version.
Which of those paths to pick for a mixed group, and what to ask a host before buying, is the subject of Terraria crossplay server hosting. If a join fails with "Lost connection" rather than a version message, start with the Lost Connection guide.
What a host cannot fix
Changing the server location, RAM, port, or provider does not create native crossplay. It also does not translate incompatible client protocols. Do not advertise “PC + mobile + console” as a guaranteed one-click feature unless the exact current game and server builds document that path.
Testing a community bridge
- Record the game version, platform, server build, TShock version, and plugin versions.
- Make a fresh world backup and test with a separate server or copy.
- Use only a bridge project with current documentation and an explicit compatibility statement for your versions.
- Test login, chat, inventory, world saves, events, and reconnects from every platform before inviting the full group.
- Keep a supported same-platform fallback. A bridge can stop working after a client hotfix.
Version mismatch troubleshooting
- Update the server and every client to the same supported patch branch.
- Do not mix vanilla and tModLoader clients.
- Check TShock and plugin compatibility before changing ports or firewall rules.
- Read the server console for the first rejected connection; it is usually more useful than repeated reconnects.
