Terraria 1.4.5 Bigger & Boulder Guide: What 1.4.5.7 and 1.4.5.8 Changed (2026)

Terraria 1.4.5 Bigger & Boulder: What 1.4.5.7 and 1.4.5.8 Changed

Released on January 27, 2026, Terraria 1.4.5, "Bigger & Boulder," added a large set of items, world-generation options, quality-of-life changes, and crossover content. Eight hotfixes followed, the last two of them large: 1.4.5.7 on August 19, 2026 and 1.4.5.8 on August 23, which Re-Logic describe as the final hotfix for the update barring critical fixes. This page covers what those two changed, which platforms have them, and the server decisions that can be verified and acted on safely. Last checked against the shipped server build on September 17, 2026.

The dedicated server download is versioned 1.4.5.8 and its changelog runs from 1.4.5.8 back through every earlier release, which is the source for the sections below. The next update Re-Logic have named is 1.4.6, Crossplay Phase One, with no date; the crossplay status page tracks it.

What 1.4.5.7 changed (August 19, 2026)

The biggest hotfix of the line by far, with a balance pass over every weapon class and 166 listed bug fixes. The parts a server owner or a returning player will notice:

  • More than thirty new items, mostly accessories and weapons: Daybloom Staff, Glacier Fang, Mystic Bloom, Lightning Strike, Clay Bud Staff, Ruinous Staff, Arc Surge, Silver Bracer, Snake Band, Mobius Strip, Poison Barb, Harpy Charm, Heavy Sling, Ouroboros Ring, Phoenix Quiver, Silver Shield, Restoration Shield, Mystic Arts Sash and more.
  • Gem staves reworked. Each gem gives the staff's shots a unique effect, a matching gem robe adds its own, and matching staff and robe raises the damage. The metal cost of gem staves dropped by about 30 percent.
  • Kinship Peach and Little Kinship Peach, which empower any pal; the Distressed Pal event is 25 percent more common and now guarantees a pal you do not have yet.
  • Guide To Old Style Parkour, an item that restores some of the player movement techniques removed in 1.4.5.
  • Two new secret seeds, taking the 1.4.5 roster to 37; the secret seeds page lists them.
  • Server and multiplayer changes: empty servers only start updating once a client has fully connected; the server logs a message when a player disconnects before joining the world; slots are no longer reserved for clients that connect and immediately disconnect; and NPC damage handling was improved on high-latency servers to reduce desyncs. If joins were flaky before August, read the Lost Connection guide after updating.
  • Small conveniences: glowsticks, flares and bombs can be picked up by right-clicking, sentries can be dismissed the same way, and you can stand on the bottom of the world again in non-Skyblock worlds.

What 1.4.5.8 changed (August 23, 2026)

A short fix release, plus the UI notes that had been left out of the 1.4.5.7 changelog.

  • Clay Bud always knocks enemies away from the player; Last Prism's laser fades out when you lack the mana for it.
  • Fixed the Acorn Slingshot crash (the changelog's own words: "collapsing the universe on hit"), prefixes stacking on items thrown into the world, the Mana Regeneration Band stacking regenerating mana at full speed while using weapons, a Dungeon Guardian appearing in seeds with an underground dungeon, and a multiplayer crash involving salamanders and the bestiary.
  • Documented from 1.4.5.7: picked-up items are always highlighted when Highlight New Items is on, the Sniper Rifle and Scope zoom has a "Forward Zoom" keybinding option (hold, toggle, always on, always off), new banners are highlighted in the Banner Menu, and gamepad navigation of the crafting UI improved.

🪨 The Skyblock Revolution

Terraria 1.4.5 includes a native Skyblock world seed. Generate the world on the same game version as the server, keep the original .wld backup, and test progression before opening it to a group.

Major Features & Mechanics

1. World-generation choices matter

The expanded secret-seed system changes how a new server world is generated. Choose and test the seed, the world size and difficulty before launch; changing a seed setting does not rebuild an existing world. See the current list of 37 Terraria 1.4.5 secret seeds.

2. Crossover content

  • Dead Cells and Palworld: The update includes officially announced crossover items and content. Refer to the in-game bestiary and current official notes for exact acquisition requirements rather than relying on pre-release lists.
  • Existing worlds: Items obtainable through drops, crafting, or events may be available without a reset, while world-generation structures and seed effects generally require a newly generated world.

3. Server upgrades need a rollback path

Stop the server cleanly, copy the world and configuration files, update the server binary, and confirm that clients can join before replacing the previous backup. Modded administrators should not move a tModLoader world to vanilla 1.4.5 just to obtain new content.

What server owners should verify

  • Version parity: clients and the vanilla server must use compatible builds.
  • World backup: retain an offline copy before every game, server, TShock, or mod update.
  • Server type: vanilla, TShock, and tModLoader are different operational paths. Do not switch a production world between them without a tested copy.
  • Current release: desktop 1.4.5.8 is current as of September 17, 2026, and Re-Logic call it the last hotfix barring critical fixes. Use the official Terraria Wiki desktop version history for later patches.

⚠️ tModLoader Compatibility

Stable tModLoader is still built on Terraria 1.4.4 as of its September 1, 2026 monthly release. The 1.4.5 port is being worked on in the open on the "1.4.5-dev" beta branch; the team says it is not ready to set a date for when 1.4.5 becomes the default, that 1.4.4 will stay available as a legacy version afterwards, and that a world played on vanilla 1.4.5 cannot be loaded into the current tModLoader. Keep production modded worlds on the modded branch, and do not move a tModLoader world to vanilla 1.4.5 for the new content. The server mods list carries each mod's maintenance status, including Calamity's.
