ARK: Survival Ascended — Recent Patches & Updates (2026)
Living document tracking the recent ASA patch and update cycle. Studio Wildcard ships fixes weekly and features monthly — this page summarises the major drops you should know about as a server admin.
TL;DR (current cycle, updated September 5, 2026)
- September 30 is the next big day: the Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade, the Therizinosaurus TLC, Cerberax (Fantastic Tames Season 1) and Dragontopia's Gargantar all land together. An engine upgrade is the patch most likely to break mods and version matching; prep notes below and in the engine upgrade guide.
- Astraeos 1.0, Heaven and the Abyss, went live August 27: two new regions (Helianthos in the sky, Abyssanthos under the sea), the Trireme warship on newly dynamic seas, the Boaratos, two Kraken ascension fights. Astraeos servers pick it up through the normal map update path.
- The Galleon set sail August 29; on official servers structure decay came back and Genesis Part 1 transfers opened September 4, with the Genesis Part 1 Expires servers closing September 18.
- Genesis Ascended Part 1 + Tides of Fortune shipped July 3 (server build v91): the ocean overhaul with simulated waves, sailable ships and the Palaeoctopus. Genesis Ascended Part 1 is free with the base game; Tides of Fortune is a separate paid expansion at $19.99. v91 also changed how the dedicated server boots and broke headless Linux/Proton servers: see the won't-start-after-v91 fix.
- Dragontopia — $29.99 non-canonical expansion pass, shadowdropped July 3; the tameable Lumina dragon followed July 9.
- Steam free weekend ran from July 10 and may explain the mid-July new-player wave on unofficial servers.
- Summer Bash ran July 17 – August 5 with summer cosmetics; the event window has ended.
- Earlier in 2026: Pyranthos on Astraeos (Feb 25), Lost Colony cave reductions and Megalab trait upgrades. The engine upgrade that earlier notes called "UE 5.7, late Q3" is now Unreal Engine 5.8 on September 30 (details).
Major 2026 Updates by Date
February 11–18: Love Ascended Event
Annual themed event with custom drop tables, decorative items, and breeding/taming bonuses. Configurable on unofficial servers via the standard event flags. If you want it active outside the official window, set -ActiveEvent=Vday in your launch args.
February 25: Pyranthos (Astraeos Expansion)
New desert landmass added to Astraeos. Server admins running Astraeos can opt-in via the standard map update path:
- Stop the dedicated server.
- Run
SteamCMD app_update 2430930 validate(server-app ID). - Restart with the existing
?Map=Astraeos_WPlaunch arg — new content loads automatically. - Existing tribe bases, dinos, and structures persist.
Expect new resource nodes and creatures specific to the desert biome. See Astraeos setup guide for the full setup walkthrough.
September 30: Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade, Therizinosaurus TLC, Cerberax and Gargantar
Community Crunch 520 (August 22) put a date on the engine upgrade and moved the version: Unreal Engine 5.8, arriving September 30, 2026, in one release with the Therizinosaurus TLC (the creature the Extra Life vote chose), Cerberax, the three-headed second creature of Fantastic Tames Season 1, and Gargantar, the next Dragontopia dragon with early access for Expansion Pass owners. Crunch 522 (September 5) reconfirmed the date. Earlier official notes had said UE 5.7 in late Q3; that is superseded. Wildcard's earlier projection for the upgrade was a 30–40% CPU/GPU performance gain, which is a client figure, not a guaranteed server tick-rate increase. For server admins:
- Measure the same map, player count, mod list, and tick-rate workload before changing plan size.
- Mods that hooked specific UE5.5 internals may break — verify mod compatibility before pushing the patch, and expect the usual wave of mods broken after the update and version mismatch reports on the day.
- Save backups before patching — keep a rollback point for mod and save compatibility issues.
- A TLC changes a creature's model and can change its stats; check your
DinoStatMultipliersbalance for Therizinosaurus after the patch.

August 27: Astraeos 1.0, Heaven and the Abyss
Astraeos reached its "final chapter": Helianthos, a bright island of mountain ridges, flower plains and flying islands, and Abyssanthos, a fog-shrouded deep-sea expanse with an underwater city inside giant air bubbles and room to build far below the surface. The seas got dynamic rolling waves and weather events, with the ancient Trireme warship to sail them. New creatures and fights: the Boaratos (a scorching boar exclusive to Astraeos), two Kraken ascension boss fights (one underwater, one at the surface), the Colossus and Kroaratos minibosses, and Astral Souls as a new Apex drop alongside a set of cosmetics. Astraeos servers pick the content up through the standard map update path (stop, app_update 2430930 validate, restart with ?Map=Astraeos_WP); the Astraeos setup guide covers the rest. Players opened an "issues after latest release" thread on the official forum within days, so take the usual backup before you patch and check your mod list.
August 29: the Galleon, and what changed on official servers
The Galleon is live: a very large ship built for fortress-style base building on open water, with a battery of cannons, and it arrives with the new water physics. Three official-server items in the same note matter to anyone whose players also play official: structure decay was temporarily disabled after an outage on the OC official servers and was re-enabled on September 4; transfers onto Genesis Ascended Part 1 official servers opened September 4; and the Genesis Part 1 Expires servers close September 18, so players have two weeks to move items, creatures and characters off them. Snail Games also introduced Conquest, a large-scale PvP mode with increased rates so tribes can rebuild after a loss rather than be wiped. None of this needs action on an unofficial server, but expect some player migration around those dates.
Lost Colony Cave Reductions (Mid-2026)
Cave entrances on the Lost Colony map were narrowed to improve PvP viability and make caves more defensible. If you run a Lost Colony PvP server:
- Existing cave bases may need adjustment — some interior layouts now have tighter entry chokepoints.
- Re-evaluate base defense plans for the affected caves.
- Tribes that built around the old entrance widths should test before next raid.
Megalab Equipment Traits
Equipment Traits can now be upgraded directly inside the Megalab. Practical impact:
- Faster gear progression for high-end PvE/PvP.
- Less reliance on RNG drops to fish for trait combinations.
- Trait pools may be rebalanced — review your tribe's gear sets after a Megalab visit.
July 3: Genesis Ascended Part 1 + Tides of Fortune (v91)
The biggest ASA content drop of the year: the Genesis Part 1 remaster with a properly simulated ocean (dynamic waves, buoyancy), sailable ships with customisable sails, and the cliff-climbing Palaeoctopus. Note which half costs money: Genesis Ascended Part 1 is free with the base game, while Tides of Fortune is a separate $19.99 expansion that adds the Sloop and Brigantine, Shipyards, broadside cannons, the ship skill trees, and the Tidepup and Parrot. Community reception split hard: the ocean overhaul drew a heavily-upvoted "Survival Descended" backlash for feeling emptier than the 2020 original (no pillar base spots in open ocean, missing lunar-biome knockback), while the ship layer and new tames landed well.
For server admins v91 is the patch that matters:
- Headless Linux/Proton regression: v91 initialises a display window and DX12 at boot, which instantly kills servers on headless boxes unless the launch uses a virtual display + WineD3D + DX11. Full symptoms and the verified fix: ASA server won't start after v91.
- The breakage follows the binary, not the map. Servers that had not yet pulled v91 kept running (which is why admins saw "Ragnarok works, Island doesn't"). Patch on your schedule, not Steam's.
- Running the new map? The identifier is
Genesis_WP, and who has to buy what differs from the paid maps: Genesis Ascended server setup. - Install footprint jumped again - on the client. The client now weighs roughly 328 GB (one 154 GB .ucas file). The dedicated server build stays far leaner - a current server install is ~12 GB - the bloat is client-side assets. Details in hardware sizing.
July 3–9: Dragontopia Expansion Pass + Lumina
Shadowdropped July 3 at $29.99 as a non-canonical paid expansion pass; the first content wave included the tameable dragon Lumina (July 9). The pricing raised eyebrows on day one, but by mid-July the community verdict had flipped positive on the content itself. Non-canonical means no transfer into the story-map cluster - if you run a cluster, decide and document whether Dragontopia content is in or out.
July 10: Steam Free Weekend
A free weekend on Steam right after the Genesis drop - the classic Wildcard demand stack. If your unofficial server saw a July join wave, this is where it came from.
July 17 – August 5: Summer Bash
The annual summer event, running through August 5 with a wave of summer cosmetics (shark-shaped and jelly-themed items). Event content applies on official servers by default; unofficial servers control events via launch args as usual.
